The Greater Philadelphia Area Puppetry Guild's mission is to serve the community of puppeteers by providing a
forum to share information and skills and to advance and promote the art of
puppetry. The guild is the oldest continuously active chartered guild of the Puppeteers of America, Inc. It was formed in 1938 as The Quaker Village Puppeteers. Throughout it's history the guild's membership has included professional puppeteers, teachers, librarians, students and other lovers of puppetry art. Our membership includes puppeteers from Harrisburg, Lancaster, Reading, Allentown, Delaware, and south
Jersey. Guild meetings are scheduled from September to June and may include performances, workshops, field trips, picnics, master classes and an annual banquet. Members of the Greater Philadelphia Area Puppetry Guild have served as presidents of the national organization; Puppeteers of America, Inc, and the USA chapter of the international organization; UNIMA-USA. Regional directors and festival directors have also been members. The Philadelphia area has hosted many regional festivals, days of puppetry and one national festival. Our membership includes nationally and internationally recoginzed performers, as well as authors, educators, and puppetry consultants. Take a moment to look at the web pages and contact information for our performing puppeteers. |
